About Us

City Voices is one of the most versatile chamber choruses in the Chicago area. Founded in 2009 in Oak Park, the ensemble has built a strong reputation as a welcoming group of experienced singers who deliver high-quality performances. City Voices explores challenging, eclectic, and inspiring music from the vast global span of choral compositions. Each season, we prepare a carefully curated repertoire and share its beauty in a series of public performances.

City Voices presents its own programs and also collaborates with other ensembles, notably the Oriana Singers. Recent concerts have included Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers and Liszt’s Missa Solemnis. Our 2024-25 season featured choral settings of psalms by Ernani Aguiar, J. S. Bach, John Bell, Leonard Bernstein, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Holst, Arvo Pärt, and Salamone Rossi. Last season also featured a survey of American music including works by William Billings, W. E. Chute, Charles Ives, Morten Lauridsen, Shawn Kirchner, Thomas Dorsey, Moses Hogan, Bobby McFerrin, and Bobby Hebb.

City Voices is directed by William Chin, a leading figure in the Chicago choral scene. He is founder and artistic director of The Oriana Singers, an international-prize-winning vocal ensemble, and is active as a conductor in the Chicago area. Mr. Chin’s past positions have included Assistant Conductor of the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Artistic Director of Chicago Children’s Choir, and Artistic Director of Pro Musica Youth Chorus.
